R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Family, friends, and colleagues of Shelby County
  Deputy Matthew Michael Eugene Pierson of Etoile have suffered an
  immeasurable loss with his tragic passing on August 29, 2023, at the
  age of 25; and
         WHEREAS, Matthew Pierson was born in Houston on June 17,
  1998, to Michael Eugene Pierson and Pamela Lee; after his mother's
  death, he lived with his uncle Jaimie Campbell, whom he loved as a
  father; he graduated in 2017 from Huntington High School, where he
  was prom king and president of his senior class; and
         WHEREAS, Early in his career, Mr. Pierson worked as a
  security guard for CHI St. Luke's Health, first in Lufkin and then
  in Houston; he graduated from the Houston Community College Police
  Academy on August 15, 2023, and on August 24, he realized his dream
  of becoming a deputy when he accepted a position with the Shelby
  County Sheriff's Office; he further demonstrated his commitment to
  serve and protect the public as a member of the Etoile Volunteer
  Fire Department; actively engaged in his community, he was involved
  with a number of other organizations as well; and
         WHEREAS, Outside of his professional and civic
  responsibilities, Deputy Pierson enjoyed spending time with his
  wide circle of loved ones, which included his best friend, Jeremy,
  as well as a host of relatives and other individuals who had become
  like family to him; and
         WHEREAS, Possessed of a dynamic personality and a kind and
  generous nature, Matthew Pierson brightened the world for all who
  knew him, and they will forever hold him close in their hearts; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory
  of Deputy Matthew Michael Eugene Pierson and extend deepest
  condolences to the members of his family: to his grandfather,
  Robert Johnson; to his uncles, Jaimie Campbell and Steve Lee; to his
  sister, Ashleigh Blaze; and to his other relatives and friends;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Deputy
  Pierson.
