R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Discovery Operating, Inc. of Midland is celebrating |
|
the 50th anniversary of its founding in 1973; and |
|
WHEREAS, The business was established by Don Luther Sparks |
|
and former Midland mayor Ernest E. Angelo Jr. to explore, find, and |
|
produce oil and gas; and |
|
WHEREAS, Today, Discovery employs more than 30 full-time |
|
employees, operating approximately 300 wells within 300 to 400 |
|
miles of Midland; the company's operated production totals 14,000 |
|
barrels of oil per day and 30,000 MCF of natural gas per day; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through the years, the company's leadership has |
|
demonstrated its commitment to the community and industry through |
|
community initiatives, elected office, and important roles in such |
|
institutions as the American Association of Drilling Engineers, the |
|
Independent Petroleum Association of America, the National Society |
|
of Petroleum Engineers, the Permian Basin Petroleum Association, |
|
and the Texas Alliance of Energy Producers; and |
|
WHEREAS, The contributions of Don and Gwyndolyn Sparks, in |
|
addition to those of many dedicated individuals, have grown |
|
Discovery into a thriving family operation, involving three |
|
generations of Sparks family members; and |
|
WHEREAS, Discovery Operating has made significant |
|
contributions to the Permian Basin over the course of its 50-year |
|
history, and it stands as an inspiring example of the success that |
|
can be realized by hardworking, visionary entrepreneurs in the Lone |
|
Star State; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature, 3rd |
|
Called Session, hereby congratulate Discovery Operating, Inc. on |
|
its semicentennial and extend to all those associated with the |
|
company sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Discovery Operating, Inc. as an expression of high |
|
regard by the Texas Senate. |
