R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Washington Irving Dual Language Academy, a charter
  school in the San Antonio Independent School District, is
  celebrating the 100th anniversary of its founding in 2023; and
         WHEREAS, Irving Academy was founded in 1923 and named after
  Washington Irving, a 19th century American author; it was
  established as one of San Antonio ISD's original eight junior high
  schools, and classes were initially held at Crockett Elementary
  before the Irving Junior High School building officially opened in
  January 1924; and
         WHEREAS, In 1973, Irving Academy moved to its present
  location on Delgado Street; a new band and mariachi hall was added
  in 2003 as part of a facilities expansion bond program, and the
  campus has since offered classes in band, mariachi, choir, and art,
  alongside dual language instruction, gifted and talented
  programming, special education programming, and guidance services
  for eligible students; and
         WHEREAS, Today, Washington Irving Dual Language Academy
  encompasses prekindergarten through eighth grade classes; its
  faculty members are committed to cultivating a safe and nurturing
  learning environment that empowers students to excel academically
  while acquiring language proficiency in both English and Spanish;
  and
         WHEREAS, For a century, Washington Irving Dual Language
  Academy has provided young Texans with a solid educational
  foundation that enables them to reach their full potential and
  become productive and engaged members of their communities, and it
  is a privilege to join in celebrating this special milestone in the
  school's history; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature, 3rd
  Called Session, hereby honor Washington Irving Dual Language
  Academy on its centennial and extend to its administrators,
  faculty, staff, and students sincere best wishes for continued
  success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  Senate.
