R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Mark Twain Dual Language Academy in the San Antonio
  Independent School District is celebrating its 100th anniversary in
  2023; and
         WHEREAS, San Antonio citizens voted in 1922 to establish a
  pioneering junior high school system for students in grades six
  through eight; the resulting eight campuses, which were named after
  notable figures of American literature, opened in 1923 and offered
  a bridge between elementary and high school and a more challenging
  curriculum to better prepare students to succeed; and
         WHEREAS, Ably guided by principal David Garcia and assistant
  principals Elena Aldaz and Gisella Calejo, Mark Twain Dual Language
  Academy currently serves students in prekindergarten through the
  eighth grade; the school opened as a dual language institution
  during the 2017-2018 school year, and its unique curriculum allows
  students to receive academic instruction in both Spanish and
  English; the academy also offers extracurricular programs such as
  mariachi and sports, and it has been recognized with an A rating;
  and
         WHEREAS, For the past century, this noteworthy institution
  has provided its students with a strong educational foundation on
  which to build, and it has made a positive and lasting difference in
  the lives of generations of San Antonio residents; now, therefore,
  be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature, 3rd
  Called Session, hereby commemorate the 100th anniversary of Mark
  Twain Dual Language Academy and extend to its students, faculty,
  staff, and alumni sincere best wishes for continued success; and,
  be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  Senate.
