CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
|
|
|
WHEREAS, In recognition of his notable contributions to area |
|
|
athletics, Barry Russell was inducted into the Midland Independent |
|
|
School District Hall of Legends on October 27, 2023; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Every other year, the Hall of Legends recognizes a |
|
|
new class of inductees, honoring exceptional athletes, teams, and |
|
|
coaches, as well as prominent supporters of the district's sports |
|
|
programs; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A head coach for more than three decades, Barry |
|
|
Russell enjoyed a remarkable 22-year tenure at the helm of the |
|
|
Midland High School baseball team, racking up 518 wins against only |
|
|
237 losses; his teams collected 11 district titles, and during a |
|
|
playoff run of 20 consecutive years, the Bulldogs won two regional |
|
|
crowns, claimed the 2001 5A state championship, and returned to the |
|
|
state semifinals in 2006; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Russell's accolades include Coach of the Year |
|
|
awards from the Texas Sports Writers Association and the National |
|
|
Federation of State High School Associations, and he is a member of |
|
|
the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Through his dedicated efforts, Barry Russell has |
|
|
furthered the proud tradition of athletic excellence and |
|
|
participation that has long been a hallmark of Midland ISD, and he |
|
|
is indeed deserving of this prestigious honor; now, therefore, be |
|
|
it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas, |
|
|
4th Called Session, hereby congratulate Barry Russell on his |
|
|
induction into the Midland ISD Hall of Legends and extend to him |
|
|
sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Coach Russell as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives and Senate. |
