R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Lone Star College-University Park is celebrating |
|
the grand opening of its new Visual and Performing Arts Center with |
|
a ribbon-cutting ceremony on December 6, 2023; and |
|
WHEREAS, The $29.3 million project was first announced in |
|
late 2019, and construction began on May 31, 2022; the |
|
30,000-square-foot center features art, drama, and music |
|
classrooms as well as a wide range of other facilities, including an |
|
art gallery, a band hall, a 338-seat main-stage theater with an |
|
orchestra pit, and a 100-seat black box theater; in addition, |
|
visual and performing arts students will be able to use the center |
|
to showcase their work, performances, and exhibits; and |
|
WHEREAS, The center's grand opening event includes a |
|
ribbon-cutting ceremony, guided tours of the new building, and a |
|
drama performance of A Christmas Carol; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Visual and Performing Arts Center will enable |
|
Lone Star College students to better develop their talents and |
|
potential, and it is sure to serve as an invaluable resource for the |
|
campus and for the greater community; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby commemorate the grand |
|
opening of the Visual and Performing Arts Center at Lone Star |
|
College-University Park and commend all those involved in bringing |
|
this project to fruition; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the university as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
