R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Christian Torres of Pharr received the |
|
Entrepreneurship Award from the Governor's Committee on People with |
|
Disabilities at its Lex Frieden Employment Awards ceremony on |
|
October 26, 2023; and |
|
WHEREAS, Each October, in conjunction with National |
|
Disability Employment Awareness Month, the Governor's Committee |
|
recognizes Texans who have dedicated themselves to empowering their |
|
employees, co-workers, and fellow Texans with disabilities; the |
|
awards program is named in tribute to disability rights expert Lex |
|
Frieden, one of the chief architects of the Americans with |
|
Disabilities Act; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Entrepreneurship Award is presented to an |
|
individual with a disability who has shown extraordinary ingenuity |
|
and drive in establishing and sustaining a successful business that |
|
creates jobs and accessible services for others; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Torres is the owner and founder of Christian's |
|
Cookie House, which provides stuffed cookies and other sweets to |
|
Texans in the Rio Grande Valley; he is a member of numerous |
|
community organizations, and he makes contributions to charitable |
|
causes across the area; and |
|
WHEREAS, Christian Torres has distinguished himself as an |
|
inspiring example of the entrepreneurial spirit of the Lone Star |
|
State, and he is richly deserving of this prestigious honor; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby congratulate Christian |
|
Torres on receiving the 2023 Entrepreneurship Award from the |
|
Governor's Committee on People with Disabilities Lex Frieden |
|
Employment Awards program and extend to him sincere best wishes for |
|
continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Torres as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
