R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Early College High School
  Mighty Bear Band achieved great distinction by winning first place
  at the University Interscholastic League 6A Area G Marching Band
  Contest and advancing to the 2023 state competition; and
         WHEREAS, Led by director John Garza, the PSJA Early College
  High School marching band musicians joined 14 other schools at the
  area contest, which was held in Laredo on October 21; the Mighty
  Bears claimed the title with their show "Nevermore," based on Edgar
  Allan Poe's poem "The Raven"; in so doing, they became the first
  band from PSJA ISD to become area champions; and
         WHEREAS, Following their triumph in Laredo, the Mighty Bears
  advanced to the State Marching Band Contest, held at the Alamodome
  in San Antonio on October 30 and 31, where they proudly represented
  their school against the other 6A qualifiers from across Texas; and
         WHEREAS, Through hard work and an unwavering resolve to give
  their very best, the talented young performers of the PSJA Early
  College High School band have earned the admiration of their fellow
  students and their many community supporters, and they may indeed
  take great pride in their achievements; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby congratulate the PSJA Early
  College High School Mighty Bear Band on winning first place at the
  2023 UIL 6A Area G Marching Band Contest and advancing to the state
  competition and extend to all those involved with the ensemble
  sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the band as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
