SENATE RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Augustin Rivera Jr. on receiving the 2023
  Distinguished Citizen of the Year Award from the South Texas
  Council Boy Scouts of America; and
         WHEREAS, Each year, the South Texas Council Boy Scouts of
  America recognizes an individual who has demonstrated
  outstanding leadership abilities and has made significant
  positive contributions to the Coastal Bend community; and
         WHEREAS, This year, Augie Rivera will be honored at the
  Distinguished Citizen Award Dinner, which will be held on
  November 30, 2023; a lifelong resident of South Texas, Augie
  served as the South Texas Council Boy Scouts of America
  Centennial Board President in 2019 and as a volunteer youth
  baseball, basketball, and chess coach and in a wide range of
  scouting roles; still active in the program, he volunteers at
  local and national levels; and
         WHEREAS, A graduate of Yale University and Stanford Law
  School, Augie practiced as a civil trial and appellate lawyer for
  more than 28 years before joining the Del Mar College District,
  where he serves as general counsel and is a member of the
  president's executive team; as an attorney, he has upheld the
  highest standards of his profession, and he has earned local,
  state, and national recognition for his achievements and his
  contributions to the field of law; and
         WHEREAS, Augie has served on the boards of a number of
  agencies and professional and nonprofit organizations, including
  those of the Ethics Commission of the City of Corpus Christi, the
  Corpus Christi Housing Authority, South Texas Broadcasting,
  Incorporated, and the Texas A&M--Corpus Christi Foundation; he
  currently serves as chair of the Texas Board of Law Examiners and
  sits on the boards of the National Conference of Bar Examiners
  and the National Association of College and University
  Attorneys; and
         WHEREAS, A man of wisdom and integrity, Augie is a source
  of inspiration to former and future scouts and is a recipient of
  the organization's Silver Beaver Award; he is a devoted husband
  to the Honorable Julianna Siracusa Rivera and a proud father to
  four former scouts, including two Eagle Scouts; he has benefited
  countless Texans through his generosity and his service to his
  community, and he is indeed deserving of special recognition for
  his many positive contributions to South Texas; now, therefore,
  be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
  Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby commend Augie Rivera Jr.
  on earning the 2023 Distinguished Citizen of the Year Award from
  the South Texas Council Boy Scouts of America and extend to him
  best wishes in all his future endeavors; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
