BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE

 

The sacrifices made by military veterans in their service to the United States deserve additional recognition. H.B. 3108 seeks to provide this recognition to a veteran of the Iraq War by designating a portion of a roadway in Titus County as the Army Staff Sergeant Clay Allen Craig Memorial Bridge.

 

CRIMINAL JUSTICE IMPACT

 

It is the committee's opinion that this bill does not expressly create a criminal offense, increase the punishment for an existing criminal offense or category of offenses, or change the eligibility of a person for community supervision, parole, or mandatory supervision.

 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

 

It is the committee's opinion that this bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, department, agency, or institution.

 

ANALYSIS

 

H.B. 3108 amends the Transportation Code to designate the FM 2348 bridge in Titus County that is located on the portion of FM 2348 between State Highway 49 and United States Highway 67 as the Army Staff Sergeant Clay Allen Craig Memorial Bridge. The bill requires the Texas Department of Transportation, subject to a grant or donation of funds, to do the following:

·         design and construct markers indicating the designation as the Army Staff Sergeant Clay Allen Craig Memorial Bridge and any other appropriate information; and

·         erect a marker at each end of the bridge.

September 1, 2023.
