AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT
The City of Dallas unveiled signs with Korean translations in the Royal Lane and Harry Hines Boulevard neighborhood on January 13, 2023, providing well-deserved recognition for the area popularly known as Koreatown.
January 13 is annually celebrated as Korean American Day to commemorate the arrival of the first Korean immigrants to the United States on January 13, 1903.
The Greater Dallas Korean American Chamber of Commerce, established in 1976, has been a crucial advocate for the Korean American community in Dallas.
About 40 years ago, Korean Texans living in the Royal Lane and Harry Hines Boulevard neighborhood started to build businesses, and the Korean commercial district was formed; since then, the area has been transformed into a vibrant Korean wholesale and retail center.
Royal Lane is a showcase of Korean culture, and a prosperous Koreatown will be a continuing source of pride for those who live and work in the area and for all Texans.
The designation of Koreatown by the Texas Legislature provides well-deserved recognition for one of the largest Korean American communities in the southern United States and acknowledges the important contributions of the Korean community, not only to the City of Dallas but to the entire State of Texas.
