A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the membership of the Texas Transportation Commission. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 201.051(b), Transportation Code, is |
|
|
amended to read as follows: |
|
|
(b) The members shall be appointed to reflect the diverse |
|
|
geographic regions and population groups of this state, including: |
|
|
(1) at least one [. One] member who must reside in a |
|
|
rural area and be a registered voter of a county with a population |
|
|
of less than 150,000; and |
|
|
(2) at least one member who: |
|
|
(A) must reside and be a registered voter in a |
|
|
county bordering the United Mexican States; and |
|
|
(B) may not be the same member as described by |
|
|
Subdivision (1). |
|
|
SECTION 2. The changes in law made by this Act in the |
|
|
qualifications of members of the Texas Transportation Commission do |
|
|
not affect the entitlement of a member serving on the commission |
|
|
immediately before the effective date of this Act to continue to |
|
|
serve for the remainder of the member's term. As the terms of |
|
|
commission members expire, the governor shall appoint or reappoint |
|
|
a member who has the qualifications required for a member under |
|
|
Section 201.051, Transportation Code, as amended by this Act. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
