A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to a study regarding the cost of child care in this state |
|
in comparison to wages. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. (a) The Health and Human Services Commission |
|
with the assistance of the Texas Workforce Commission shall conduct |
|
a study regarding the cost of child care in this state in comparison |
|
to wages. The study must: |
|
(1) examine: |
|
(A) past trends in child-care costs in comparison |
|
to past wages; |
|
(B) current trends in child-care costs in |
|
comparison to current wages; |
|
(C) future trends in child-care costs, including |
|
projected costs for child care for each of the next 10 years and |
|
projected future wages for each of the next 10 years; and |
|
(D) expansion or stabilization of social service |
|
programs over the periods provided in this subdivision; and |
|
(2) compare the data described in Subdivision (1) of |
|
this subsection for single-parent and two-parent households. |
|
(b) Not later than September 1, 2024, the Health and Human |
|
Services Commission shall report the results of the study conducted |
|
under Subsection (a) of this section to the governor, the |
|
lieutenant governor, the speaker of the house of representatives, |
|
and each legislative standing committee with jurisdiction over |
|
child-care facilities. |
|
(c) This section expires September 1, 2025. |
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
