A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to eligibility for appointment to the board of managers of |
|
|
a school district or open-enrollment charter school. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 39A.204, Education Code, is amended to |
|
|
read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 39A.204. QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPOSITION OF BOARD OF |
|
|
MANAGERS. (a) The commissioner may not appoint an individual to a |
|
|
board of managers unless the individual is eligible to be elected as |
|
|
a trustee of a school district under Subchapter C, Chapter 11, of |
|
|
this code and Section 141.001, Election Code. |
|
|
(b) A board of managers appointed by the commissioner must, |
|
|
if possible, include community leaders, business representatives |
|
|
who have expertise in leadership, and individuals who have |
|
|
knowledge or expertise in the field of education. |
|
|
SECTION 2. Section 39A.204, Education Code, as amended by |
|
|
this Act, applies beginning with appointments made to a board of |
|
|
managers of a school district or open-enrollment charter school on |
|
|
or after the effective date of this Act. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
