A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the permissible uses of the bilingual education |
|
|
allotment provided under the foundation school program. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 48.105(b), Education Code, is amended to |
|
|
read as follows: |
|
|
(b) At least 55 percent of the funds allocated under this |
|
|
section must be used in providing bilingual education or special |
|
|
language programs under Subchapter B, Chapter 29. A district's |
|
|
bilingual education or special language allocation may be used only |
|
|
for program and student evaluation, instructional materials and |
|
|
equipment, staff development, supplemental staff expenses, salary |
|
|
supplements for teachers, incremental costs associated with |
|
|
providing smaller class sizes, including any incremental portion of |
|
|
teacher salaries needed to provide smaller class sizes, and other |
|
|
supplies required for quality instruction. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2023-2024 |
|
|
school year. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
