A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the public policy of this state with regard to child |
|
|
support. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 154, Family Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding Section 154.0001 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 154.0001. PUBLIC POLICY. It is the public policy of |
|
|
this state to: |
|
|
(1) ensure that a child's parents share in the |
|
|
obligation to support the child after the parents have separated or |
|
|
dissolved their marriage; |
|
|
(2) ensure that a child's parents provide support for |
|
|
the child in accordance with guidelines and procedures established |
|
|
by law where appropriate; and |
|
|
(3) establish child support guidelines to guide courts |
|
|
in rendering an order for the payment of child support by a parent. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
