A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the emergency food assistance program administered by |
|
|
the Department of Agriculture. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Chapter 12, Agriculture Code, is amended by |
|
|
adding Section 12.052 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 12.052. EMERGENCY FOOD ASSISTANCE PROGRAM. In |
|
|
administering the emergency food assistance program under Section |
|
|
12.0025, the department shall include in the eligibility criteria |
|
|
for replacing perishable foods households that are located in an |
|
|
area declared to be a disaster area by the governor or the president |
|
|
of the United States. |
|
|
SECTION 2. As soon as practicable after the effective date |
|
|
of this Act, the Department of Agriculture shall adopt rules |
|
|
necessary to implement the changes in law made by this Act. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
