A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to court administration for cases referred to criminal law
  magistrates in Tarrant County.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Subchapter H, Chapter 54, Government Code, is
  amended by adding Section 54.6585 to read as follows:
         Sec. 54.6585.  CLERK. (a) The district clerk serves as
  clerk of the cases referred to a magistrate under this subchapter,
  except:
               (1)  the county clerk serves as clerk for a Class A or
  Class B misdemeanor case filed in a county criminal court and
  referred to a magistrate; and
               (2)  the originating justice court clerk serves as
  clerk for a Class C misdemeanor case filed in a justice court and
  referred to a magistrate.
         (b)  The district clerk shall establish a docket and keep the
  minutes for the cases referred to a magistrate under this
  subchapter. The local administrative judge shall ensure the duties
  required under this subsection are performed. To facilitate the
  duties associated with serving as the clerk for the cases referred
  to a magistrate, the district clerk and deputy district clerks may
  serve as deputy county clerks and deputy justice clerks at the
  discretion of the district clerk.
         SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
