A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to whom certain violations of the law by a state or local |
|
|
governmental entity may be reported. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 554.002(a), Government Code, is amended |
|
|
to read as follows: |
|
|
(a) A state or local governmental entity may not suspend or |
|
|
terminate the employment of, or take other adverse personnel action |
|
|
against, a public employee who in good faith reports a violation of |
|
|
law by the employing governmental entity or another public employee |
|
|
to: |
|
|
(1) the chief administrative officer of the employing |
|
|
governmental entity; |
|
|
(2) the inspector general's office of the employing |
|
|
governmental entity, if any; |
|
|
(3) the reporting employee's immediate supervisor or |
|
|
the supervisor of the reporting employee's immediate supervisor at |
|
|
the employing governmental entity; or |
|
|
(4) an appropriate law enforcement authority. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
