A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to general content standards for instructional materials |
|
|
adopted by the State Board of Education. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 31, Education Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding Section 31.0243 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 31.0243. GENERAL CONTENT STANDARDS. (a) The State |
|
|
Board of Education by majority vote may adopt general content |
|
|
standards for instructional materials. |
|
|
(b) If the State Board of Education adopts general content |
|
|
standards under Subsection (a), the board may require an |
|
|
instructional material to comply with those standards as a |
|
|
condition of the board's adoption of the instructional material |
|
|
under Section 31.024 or 31.035. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
