A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to educational materials regarding fentanyl substance |
|
abuse. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 461A, Health and Safety |
|
Code, is amended by adding Section 461A.060 to read as follows: |
|
Sec. 461A.060. FENTANYL SUBSTANCE ABUSE EDUCATIONAL |
|
MATERIALS. The department shall develop educational materials and |
|
publish the materials on the department's Internet website to |
|
educate parents and educators about: |
|
(1) the dangers of consuming illegally manufactured |
|
fentanyl; |
|
(2) recognizing the symptoms of a person experiencing |
|
an opioid overdose; |
|
(3) administering an opioid antagonist, as defined by |
|
Section 483.101, to a person experiencing an opioid overdose; and |
|
(4) recognizing the signs of opioid dependency in an |
|
adolescent. |
|
SECTION 2. As soon as practicable after the effective date |
|
of this Act, the Department of State Health Services shall publish |
|
the educational materials on the department's Internet website as |
|
required by Section 461A.060, Health and Safety Code, as added by |
|
this Act. |
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
