            |  | AN ACT | 
         
            |  | relating to enforcement of the regulation of social media | 
         
            |  | platforms. | 
         
            |  | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | 
         
            |  | SECTION 1.  Subchapter D, Chapter 120, Business & Commerce | 
         
            |  | Code, is amended by adding Sections 120.152 and 120.153 to read as | 
         
            |  | follows: | 
         
            |  | Sec. 120.152.  ATTORNEY GENERAL INVESTIGATIVE AUTHORITY.  If | 
         
            |  | the attorney general has reason to believe that a person has engaged | 
         
            |  | in, is engaging in, or is about to engage in a violation of this | 
         
            |  | chapter, the attorney general may issue a civil investigative | 
         
            |  | demand.  The procedures established for the issuance of a civil | 
         
            |  | investigative demand under Section 15.10 apply to the same extent | 
         
            |  | and manner to the issuance of a civil investigative demand under | 
         
            |  | this section.  The attorney general may seek an order from the | 
         
            |  | district court compelling compliance with a civil investigative | 
         
            |  | demand issued under this section. | 
         
            |  | Sec. 120.153.  DECEPTIVE TRADE PRACTICE.  A violation of | 
         
            |  | this chapter is a false, misleading, or deceptive act or practice | 
         
            |  | under Subchapter E, Chapter 17, and is actionable under that | 
         
            |  | subchapter. | 
         
            |  | SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
