A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to crosswalk marking requirements. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Chapter 544, Transportation Code, is amended by |
|
adding Section 544.014 to read as follows: |
|
Sec. 544.014. CROSSWALK MARKING REQUIREMENTS. (a) |
|
Notwithstanding any other law, a local authority shall indicate a |
|
marked crosswalk with one of the following: |
|
(1) solid white lines that are longitudinal, |
|
transverse, or diagonal; or |
|
(2) a Texas-themed mural described by Subsection (b). |
|
(b) A Texas-themed mural authorized by Subsection (a)(2) |
|
must: |
|
(1) completely fill the boundaries of the marked |
|
crosswalk; |
|
(2) have a white, black, or unpainted background; and |
|
(3) feature the shape of the State of Texas, painted in |
|
the manner of the Texas flag. |
|
(c) A municipality with a population of 100,000 or more |
|
shall identify the five intersections that are most used by |
|
pedestrians in the municipality and indicate each marked crosswalk |
|
in those intersections with a Texas-themed mural described by |
|
Subsection (b). |
|
SECTION 2. (a) Notwithstanding Section 544.014(c), |
|
Transportation Code, as added by this Act, a municipality is not |
|
required to comply with that subsection until September 1, 2025. |
|
(b) Not later than September 1, 2025, each municipality with |
|
a population of 100,000 or more shall conduct a study to identify |
|
the five intersections that are most used by pedestrians in the |
|
municipality. |
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
