A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the inclusion of instruction promoting the achievement |
|
|
of certain comprehensive environmental, economic, and social goals |
|
|
in the social studies curriculum for public school students. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 28.002, Education Code, is amended by |
|
|
adding Subsection (w) to read as follows: |
|
|
(w) In adopting the essential knowledge and skills for the |
|
|
social studies curriculum under Subsection (a)(1)(D), the State |
|
|
Board of Education shall adopt essential knowledge and skills that |
|
|
promote innovative ways to achieve comprehensive goals related to |
|
|
current environmental, economic, and social problems. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2023-2024 |
|
|
school year. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
