A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to the establishment of a grant program to assist certain |
|
public schools in providing salaries to school security personnel. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 37, Education Code, is |
|
amended by adding Section 37.0814 to read as follows: |
|
Sec. 37.0814. SCHOOL SECURITY GRANT PROGRAM. (a) The |
|
agency shall establish and administer a grant program to assist an |
|
eligible school district or open-enrollment charter school in |
|
providing salaries to peace officers, school resource officers, or |
|
other security personnel performing law enforcement duties for the |
|
district or school. |
|
(b) A school district or open-enrollment charter school may |
|
be eligible for a grant under this section only if the district or |
|
school employs a total of 10 or fewer security personnel. |
|
(c) The agency shall adopt rules as necessary to administer |
|
this section, including rules that establish: |
|
(1) additional eligibility criteria for grant |
|
applicants; |
|
(2) grant application procedures; |
|
(3) guidelines relating to grant amounts; |
|
(4) procedures for evaluating grant applications; and |
|
(5) procedures for monitoring the use of a grant |
|
awarded under this section and ensuring compliance with any |
|
conditions of a grant. |
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
