A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to a study regarding the feasibility of integrating into |
|
|
the electric grid facilities that use nuclear energy to generate |
|
|
electricity. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. STUDY. The chancellor of The University of Texas |
|
|
System shall designate a department or entity at the university to |
|
|
conduct a study regarding the feasibility of integrating into the |
|
|
electric grid additional facilities that use nuclear energy to |
|
|
generate electricity, including a comparison of the costs and |
|
|
benefits of nuclear fusion reactors and nuclear fission reactors. |
|
|
SECTION 2. REPORT. The department or entity at The |
|
|
University of Texas System designated by the chancellor of the |
|
|
university system to conduct the study under Section 1 of this Act |
|
|
shall prepare a report with the conclusions of the study and submit |
|
|
the report to the legislature not later than September 1, 2024. |
|
|
SECTION 3. EXPIRATION. This Act expires December 1, 2024. |

SECTION 4. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Act takes effect September |
|
|
1, 2023. |
