A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to fire alarms in commercial buildings. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Subtitle A, Title 9, Health and Safety Code, is |
|
amended by adding Chapter 767 to read as follows: |
|
CHAPTER 767. FIRE SAFETY IN COMMERCIAL BUILDINGS |
|
Sec. 767.001. DEFINITION. In this chapter, "fire alarm" |
|
means a device that detects and sounds an alarm, through audible or |
|
visual means, to indicate the presence of a fire or combustion. |
|
Sec. 767.002. FIRE ALARM REQUIREMENT. The owner of a |
|
commercial building in this state shall ensure that working fire |
|
alarms are installed and maintained in the building in accordance |
|
with the fire alarm requirements of the building code in effect in |
|
the political subdivision in which the commercial building is |
|
located, including performance, location, and power source |
|
requirements. |

SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
