CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
|
|
WHEREAS, Florence Marie Hall, a philanthropist and admired |
|
member of the Panhandle business community, is being posthumously |
|
inducted into the Petroleum Hall of Fame on April 30, 2023; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Petroleum Hall of Fame, established in 1967 by |
|
the Permian Basin Petroleum Museum in Midland, recognizes |
|
individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the |
|
development of the petroleum industry or have served as worthy |
|
examples to those in the petroleum industry; and |
|
WHEREAS, The daughter of Granville and Florence Hall, Marie |
|
Hall was born in Big Spring; she graduated from The Hockaday School |
|
and Southern Methodist University and served as director of the |
|
State National Bank of Big Spring; deeply devoted to West Texas, she |
|
distinguished herself through her extensive charitable efforts; in |
|
2011, she founded the FMH Foundation to support organizations and |
|
programs focused on health sciences, rural health care, performing |
|
and visual arts, and community and cultural endeavors, and over the |
|
years, the foundation has provided nearly 600 grants to more than |
|
130 agencies; Ms. Hall was president of the foundation until her |
|
passing in 2017; and |
|
WHEREAS, Among her accolades, Ms. Hall was named the 1987 |
|
Woman of the Year by the Big Spring Area Chamber of Commerce and an |
|
Outstanding Philanthropist by the Permian Basin Chapter of the |
|
Association of Fundraising Professionals; moreover, she received |
|
an honorary degree from Texas Tech University Health Sciences |
|
Center as well as the Rosalind Redfern Library Benefactor Award and |
|
the Turner Award from the Museum of the Southwest; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through her enduring commitment to Big Spring and |
|
communities across West Texas, Marie Hall built a legacy that will |
|
continue to resonate in the years to come, and she is indeed a |
|
worthy addition to the Petroleum Hall of Fame; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas |
|
hereby honor the memory of Florence Marie Hall on the occasion of |
|
her posthumous induction into the Petroleum Hall of Fame and pay |
|
tribute to her life and achievements; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for her family as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives and Senate. |
