CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The trustees and staff of the Texas Municipal |
|
|
Retirement System (TMRS) are celebrating the organization's 75th |
|
|
anniversary in 2023; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Since it commenced operations in 1948, TMRS has been |
|
|
a model for public retirement systems nationwide, and today, it is |
|
|
one of the largest in the country and prudently manages $35 billion |
|
|
in trust fund assets on behalf of more than 915 participating Texas |
|
|
cities; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, TMRS currently serves more than 210,000 members, |
|
|
retirees, and beneficiaries, and helps ensure their financial |
|
|
security by providing retirement, disability, and death benefits; |
|
|
the benefit payments made to TMRS members contribute billions of |
|
|
dollars to the Texas economy and its communities; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Over the past three-quarters of a century, TMRS has |
|
|
helped provide many Texans with peace of mind as they prepare for |
|
|
retirement, and the organization is indeed deserving of special |
|
|
recognition on this important milestone in its history; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas |
|
|
hereby congratulate the Texas Municipal Retirement System on its |
|
|
75th anniversary and extend to all those associated with the |
|
|
organization sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the Texas Municipal Retirement System as an expression |
|
|
of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate. |
