CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, For more than 50 years, Dr. Alberto Gutiérrez of
  McAllen has distinguished himself through his exceptional
  achievements as a physician and his compassionate work in behalf of
  low-income and uninsured patients in the Rio Grande Valley; and
         WHEREAS, A native of Rio Grande City, Alberto Gutiérrez
  graduated from The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston
  in 1966, before completing a medical internship in Fresno,
  California; he served his country as a member of the United States
  Air Force from 1967 to 1969, and he subsequently operated a family
  medical practice in Carlsbad, New Mexico, for 30 years; during that
  time, he initiated an annual health screening event and helped
  found an organization that provided Christmas gifts for
  disadvantaged children; on one of his last days in Carlsbad, he was
  recognized by the city's mayor with the proclamation of
  "Dr. Gutiérrez Day"; and
         WHEREAS, In 1998, Dr. Gutiérrez returned to the Rio Grande
  Valley, where for the past 15 years, he has served as the medical
  director for Hope Family Health Center in McAllen, a nonprofit
  charitable clinic that provides free, integrated medical and
  counseling services to low-income residents of the Rio Grande
  Valley; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Gutiérrez has also generously shared his
  medical expertise with patients at DHR Health Hospice in Edinburg;
  recently, he was recognized by the organization Futuro RGV for his
  ongoing efforts to address the health care needs of low-income
  residents; and
         WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Dr. Gutiérrez enjoys the love
  and support of his wife, Clare Gutiérrez; the couple take great
  pride in their four children, Tatiana, Alberto, Blanca, and Rusty,
  as well as their five grandchildren, Harrison, Nicholas, Pearl,
  Ryan, and Stephen; and
         WHEREAS, Respected and admired by all who are privileged to
  know him, Dr. Alberto Gutiérrez has dedicated his life to healing
  and to helping those in need, and it is a pleasure to join in
  honoring this inspiring Texan; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas
  hereby honor Dr. Alberto Gutiérrez for his many years of service to
  the people of the Rio Grande Valley and extend to him sincere best
  wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Dr. Gutiérrez as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
