R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The Rockwall County Sheriff's Office is |
|
commemorating 150 years of service in 2023; and |
|
WHEREAS, Established in 1873, the department serves Rockwall |
|
County, which was founded the same year and has grown from fewer |
|
than 3,000 people in 1880 to nearly 108,000 in 2022; today, the |
|
agency employs a 171-member staff and encompasses enforcement, |
|
criminal investigation, communication, and detention divisions; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Over the years, the office has benefited from the |
|
efforts of a total of 19 sheriffs; the first, Thomas F. Shaw, |
|
initially ran the office as a one-man operation, and the |
|
longest-tenured sheriff was W. J. Price, who directed the |
|
department for more than three decades; since 2020, the sheriff's |
|
agency has been led by Terry Garrett; and |
|
WHEREAS, For a century and a half, the Rockwall County |
|
Sheriff's Office has worked to protect the lives and property of |
|
area residents, and it is a privilege to join in commending its |
|
staff for their outstanding service; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor the Rockwall County Sheriff's Office on |
|
the occasion of its 150th anniversary and extend to all those |
|
associated with the department sincere best wishes for continued |
|
success with their important work; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
