R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Proud residents of Rockwall County are marking the |
|
|
150th anniversary of their county's founding on January 22, 2023; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Located on the Blackland Prairie, the region was |
|
|
originally inhabited by the Caddo and Creek peoples; Anglo settlers |
|
|
first arrived in the area during the 1840s, when the Republic of |
|
|
Texas Central National Road was constructed, with the cities of |
|
|
Rockwall and Heath founded along this route; the area was part of |
|
|
Nacogdoches, Henderson, and Kaufman Counties before the official |
|
|
formation of Rockwall County in 1873; the county takes its name from |
|
|
the distinctive subterranean rock formation that crosses the land; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Despite being the smallest county in Texas, Rockwall |
|
|
County is one of the most prosperous counties in the state and one |
|
|
of the fastest growing counties in the country; located just |
|
|
outside of Dallas and bounded on the west by Lake Ray Hubbard, the |
|
|
county has shifted in recent years from a largely agricultural area |
|
|
to a desirable residential suburb; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Celebrating their rich history as they work together |
|
|
to build an even brighter future, the people of Rockwall County may |
|
|
indeed take great pride in the role their community continues to |
|
|
play in the story of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the 150th anniversary of Rockwall |
|
|
County and extend to the county's residents sincere best wishes for |
|
|
the future. |
