R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Dr. Jerry King is retiring as president of Trinity
  Valley Community College on May 31, 2023, drawing to a close four
  and a half decades of distinguished service to the institution; and
         WHEREAS, A native of Commerce, Dr. King earned his bachelor's
  degree in economics in 1973, his master's degree in business
  administration in 1975, and his doctorate in education in 1986, all
  from Texas A&M University-Commerce; and
         WHEREAS, This dedicated educator first joined TVCC in the
  1970s, and over the course of his exemplary 45-year tenure with the
  school, he has served as a business and economics professor, dean of
  Workforce Education, associate vice president of Workforce
  Education and Business Affairs, vice president of instruction, and
  chief instructional officer; since 2016, he has been TVCC's
  president, and in that role he has earned the respect and admiration
  of the college's faculty, students, and staff; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. King has been a leader in his community as well;
  from 1995 to 2005, he served as mayor of Athens, and from 2008 to
  2012, he was board vice chair of the Trinity Valley Electric
  Cooperative; he has also served as president of the Athens Noon
  Kiwanis Club, vice president of the Athens Chamber of Commerce and
  the Henderson County United Way, and president of the East Texas
  Economic Development District and the East Texas Tech-Prep
  Consortium, and he has sat on the boards of the Texas A&M
  University-Commerce Alumni Association and Workforce Solutions
  East Texas, among other groups; his many honors include service
  awards from his alma mater and the Henderson County Retired
  Teachers and recognition as Citizen of the Year in Athens; and
         WHEREAS, Jerry King has served Trinity Valley Community
  College with skill, dedication, and enthusiasm for nearly half a
  century, and he may indeed reflect with pride on a career well spent
  as he embarks on the next exciting chapter of his life; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Jerry King on his retirement as
  president of Trinity Valley Community College and extend to him
  sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Dr. King as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
