R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The retirement of Major Danny Williams from the |
|
Dallas Police Department is being celebrated with a special event |
|
in his honor on February 3, 2023; and |
|
WHEREAS, Danny Williams is a 36-year veteran of the |
|
department, where he was hired in 1986; he worked as a patrol |
|
officer and in youth operations and felony assaults investigation |
|
before being promoted to patrol sergeant in 1997; after earning |
|
another promotion to the rank of lieutenant in 2006, he held various |
|
leadership roles in the department, which included serving as |
|
commander of the S.W.A.T. Team, the Central Business District, and |
|
the vice and gangs units; and |
|
WHEREAS, Major Williams was elevated to his current rank in |
|
2014, and he subsequently commanded the department's South Central |
|
Patrol Division, Field Services Division, and Criminal |
|
Investigations Bureau; one of his proudest accomplishments was his |
|
leadership of the Northeast Patrol Division in the successful |
|
collaboration with other city service departments to combat violent |
|
crime in north Dallas during the summer months; and |
|
WHEREAS, A native of Holly Grove, Arkansas, Major Williams |
|
earned his bachelor's degree in public administration from the |
|
University of Central Arkansas and his master's degree in criminal |
|
justice from the University of North Texas; he is also a 2015 |
|
graduate of the Caruth Police Institute and a 2018 graduate of the |
|
FBI National Academy, and he is a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha |
|
Fraternity, Inc.; in addition to his duties with the department, he |
|
previously served as an adjunct instructor in criminal justice at |
|
the University of Phoenix and Dallas College; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through his leadership, professionalism, and |
|
commitment to protecting and serving his community, Major Danny |
|
Williams has greatly benefited the citizens of Dallas, and he may |
|
indeed reflect with pride on a career well spent as he embarks on |
|
the next exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Major Danny Williams on his |
|
retirement from the Dallas Police Department and extend to him |
|
sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Major Williams as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
