R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Sergeant Brittney Lee and Corporal Joshua Ames of
  the Athens Police Department demonstrated remarkable skill and
  compassion when they saved the life of a citizen on April 19, 2021;
  and
         WHEREAS, On that day, a local man who had been battling years
  of alcoholism and drug addiction decided to take his own life, and
  the authorities were notified of his intention; and
         WHEREAS, Sergeant Lee and Corporal Ames undertook an extended
  search for the man, and they eventually found him near some railroad
  tracks in a wooded area; they prevented the man from further
  injuring himself and evacuated him to a hospital, where he received
  surgery that saved his life; and
         WHEREAS, In the months since the incident, the man has
  maintained sobriety and joined a ministry that assists other
  recovering addicts, and he credits the two officers with helping
  him turn his life around; and
         WHEREAS, Every day, the peace officers of Texas are called to
  the aid of individuals in desperate circumstances, and in helping a
  fellow citizen choose life, Sergeant Lee and Corporal Ames have
  demonstrated the dedication to duty and commitment to service that
  define their profession; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Sergeant Brittney Lee and Corporal
  Joshua Ames for their heroic actions on April 19, 2021, and extend
  to them sincere best wishes for continued success in their
  important work; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Sergeant Lee and Corporal Ames as an expression of high
  regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
