R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Family and friends were deeply saddened by the |
|
passing of OC Jackson III on December 31, 2022, at the age of 21; and |
|
WHEREAS, OC Jackson was born on June 26, 2001, to |
|
OC Jackson Jr. and Sharon Graham Jackson, and he grew up with the |
|
companionship of a sister, Arnada; he attended Mt. Hebron Christian |
|
Academy in Garland, where he excelled in the yearly oratorical |
|
contest and discovered his love for public speaking; a 2019 |
|
graduate of Garland High School, he belonged to the National Honor |
|
Society, the Performing Arts Endorsement Program, and the |
|
International Baccalaureate Theatre Program; and |
|
WHEREAS, Answering his nation's call to duty, Mr. Jackson |
|
joined the U.S. Navy in June 2019; following his completion of boot |
|
camp, he was stationed in Florida and received his job assignment as |
|
a cryptologist; he later relocated to Georgia and was deployed to |
|
the USS Kearsarge, serving aboard the naval carrier for three and a |
|
half years and rising to the rank of petty officer 2nd class E-5; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Jackson professed his faith at an early age, and |
|
he was a valued congregant of North Garland Baptist Fellowship; he |
|
attended the men's ministry Sunday school class and was actively |
|
involved with the youth ministry and Awana Clubs; moreover, he was a |
|
spokesman for the Bowtie Boys, and during his time with the |
|
organization, he had the honor of crossing the Edmund Pettus Bridge |
|
in Selma, Alabama, in observance of the 50th anniversary of the |
|
brutal police assault on civil rights demonstrators that spurred |
|
the passage of the Voting Rights Act; and |
|
WHEREAS, Although his journey on this earth ended far too |
|
soon, OC Jackson made the world a brighter place for those who were |
|
fortunate enough to know him, and they will forever keep his memory |
|
alive in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of OC Jackson III and |
|
extend heartfelt condolences to the members of his family: to his |
|
parents, OC Jackson Jr. and Sharon Graham Jackson; to his sister, |
|
Arnada Synice Marchet Jackson; to his grandmother, Marine Singleton |
|
Jackson; to his grandfather, Hampton Graham; to his best friend, |
|
Forrest Andrew Coleman; and to his many other relatives and |
|
friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of OC Jackson. |
