R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, San Antonio lost an admired civic leader with the
  passing of John William Hayes on January 17, 2023, at the age of 63;
  and
         WHEREAS, The son of Alice Inez Head and Elmer Stanton Hayes,
  John Hayes was born in Dallas on May 17, 1959; he attended Texas
  Tech University and embarked on a career in the oil and gas
  industry, rising to become president of Activa Resources; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Hayes was deeply committed to helping others,
  and he served as chair of the San Antonio Area Foundation and
  Santikos Enterprises; as a founding member of the board of the
  Somerset ISD Education Foundation, he worked diligently for the
  betterment of an underserved school district; he was also a member
  of the boards of City Education Partners and San Antonio Citizens
  Federal Credit Union; and
         WHEREAS, Above all, Mr. Hayes was devoted to his family; he
  shared a fulfilling marriage with his wife, Amy, and he took great
  pride in their daughter, Hayden; with a larger-than-life
  personality and keen interest in others, he had a gift for making
  everyone around him feel special; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Hayes was sustained by a strong faith from an
  early age, and in his youth, he traveled with a Christian singing
  group; profoundly appreciative of all his blessings, he wrote
  thoughtful notes for his "gratitude jar," and he met life's
  challenges, including cancer, with determination and grace; in his
  free time, he enjoyed music and theater, and he delighted in
  attending Phantom of the Opera with his daughter, listening to
  gospel music and Luther Vandross, and watching sentimental Hallmark
  movies; recently, he had taken up pickleball and played
  enthusiastically with his friends at San Antonio Country Club; and
         WHEREAS, John Hayes lived a caring and purposeful life
  centered around his family, his faith, and his community, and
  although he will be deeply missed by those he left behind, he will
  forever hold a special place in their hearts; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of John William Hayes
  and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his
  wife, Amy Carr Hayes; to his daughter, Hayden Reese Hayes; to his
  siblings, Stan Hayes, Connie Swain, and Cricket Lee; to his
  brothers-in-law, Andy and Greg Carr; and to his other relatives and
  many friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of John Hayes.
