R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Habitat for Humanity Texas is holding its annual Day
  at the Dome Capitol Build on February 7, 2023, and this occasion
  provides a welcome opportunity to recognize Elise Fulton Smith for
  her efforts as executive director of Jefferson County Habitat for
  Humanity; and
         WHEREAS, The world's largest not-for-profit homebuilder,
  Habitat for Humanity International has made a positive difference
  in the lives of more than 4 million people around the globe; Habitat
  for Humanity of Jefferson County is one of its oldest affiliates in
  the United States; founded in 1978 as Beaumont Habitat for
  Humanity, it eventually changed its name to reflect its mission of
  serving the entire Mid Counties/Triangle area; to date, this
  affiliate has built more than 122 homes accommodating over 500
  residents of the area; and
         WHEREAS, Habitat assists working families who qualify for an
  interest-free mortgage based on their income; the program's
  homebuyers must commit more than 200 hours of "sweat equity" to the
  construction of their home; and
         WHEREAS, The walls built at this year's Day of the Dome event
  will be shipped to Jefferson County and incorporated in a house for
  a lifelong Beaumont resident and her three sons; Elise Fulton Smith
  is overseeing all the logistics of this effort, including
  identifying a suitable site, securing funding for lumber and other
  supplies, negotiating permitting and construction, and organizing
  volunteers to raise the walls and complete the home this summer; and
         WHEREAS, Through her tireless endeavors in behalf of
  Jefferson County Habitat for Humanity, Elise Fulton Smith is
  helping to make the benefits of home ownership more widely
  attainable, and her contributions have earned the admiration and
  appreciation of her fellow citizens; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Elise Fulton Smith for her service as
  executive director of Jefferson County Habitat for Humanity and
  extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success in her
  important work; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Smith as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
