R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to
  a close with the passing of Cruz Reyes Hinojosa Sr. of Houston on
  February 4, 2023, at the age of 89; and
         WHEREAS, The son of Luis and Cipriana Hinojosa, Cruz Hinojosa
  was born on May 3, 1933, in Lawton, Oklahoma, and he grew up in the
  Second Ward of Houston with his five siblings, Jim, Louis, Ray,
  Minnie, and Viola; he attended Sam Houston High School, where he was
  quarterback of the football team; and
         WHEREAS, On March 2, 1952, Mr. Hinojosa married the love of
  his life, Susie, and they were blessed with nine children, Cruz,
  Joe, Sylvia, Damian, Susie, Thomas, John, Sarah, and Michael; with
  the passing years, he had the pleasure of seeing his family grow to
  include 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Hinojosa valiantly served his country as a
  member of the U.S. Air Force; during his 21 years in uniform, he was
  stationed in locations around the globe, including Alaska, Germany,
  and Thailand; following his retirement, he returned to Houston and
  became a purchasing agent for Texas Southern University; and
         WHEREAS, A leader in inner-city Houston, Mr. Hinojosa took an
  active role in politics and served as a community development
  commissioner and precinct judge; he was instrumental in the
  renovation of Eastwood Park and the development of the Flores
  Neighborhood Library, and he spent years coaching baseball,
  softball, and basketball; he was also active in such organizations
  as the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and the Knights of Columbus
  Council No. 7230; in his leisure time, he enjoyed singing and
  dancing, and he played a variety of sports throughout his life; and
         WHEREAS, Deeply dedicated to his family, his faith, and his
  community, Cruz Hinojosa earned the lasting respect and admiration
  of all who were privileged to know him, and he will be fondly
  remembered and deeply missed; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Cruz Reyes Hinojosa
  Sr. and extend sincere condolences to his relatives and friends;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Cruz
  Hinojosa.
