R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Judge K. Randall Hufstetler retired from the 300th |
|
Judicial District Court of Brazoria County in December 2022, |
|
drawing to a close nearly a quarter century of distinguished |
|
service on the bench; and |
|
WHEREAS, Randall Hufstetler earned his bachelor's degree |
|
from Austin College and his law degree from St. Mary's University, |
|
and he began his legal career in 1986 as an associate in the firm of |
|
Hill, Ellis and Walker in Sherman; he went on to set up his own |
|
practice in Pearland in 1993; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1995, Judge Hufstetler entered public service |
|
when he became an assistant district attorney for Brazoria County, |
|
and from 1999 to 2022, he was district judge for the county's 300th |
|
Judicial District Court, presiding over a dual docket of family |
|
court cases and felony criminal cases; between 2002 and 2014, he |
|
also served several terms as presiding judge of Brazoria County; |
|
with his retirement from the court, he looks forward to returning to |
|
private practice; and |
|
WHEREAS, In addition to his responsibilities on the bench, |
|
Judge Hufstetler has taught at Alvin Community College and the |
|
University of Houston-Clear Lake, and he has served on the faculty |
|
of the National Family Law Trial Institute of Houston since 2013; he |
|
has been a member of the Supreme Court of Texas Permanent Judicial |
|
Commission for Children, Youth, and Families, where he has served |
|
on the Task Force on Court-Appointed Legal Representation and as |
|
chair of the Legal Practice and Process Committee; and |
|
WHEREAS, Judge Hufstetler has also found time to serve as |
|
vice president of the Brazoria County Bar Association, as a judge on |
|
the Teen Court of Brazoria County, and as a member of the county's |
|
Community Supervision and Corrections Department board, Juvenile |
|
Probation Department board, and Bail Bond Board; a sought-after |
|
speaker, he has been recognized as the Judge of the Year by the |
|
Brazoria County Women's Bar Association and as the Professional of |
|
the Year by Brazoria County Youth & Family Counseling Services, and |
|
he has been inducted into the National Youth Court Center Volunteer |
|
Hall of Fame; and |
|
WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Judge Hufstetler enjoys the |
|
love and support of his wife of nearly 40 years, Danette Hufstetler, |
|
his children, Maegan and Kristopher, and his grandchildren, Chip, |
|
Hartley, and Kaden; and |
|
WHEREAS, Randall Hufstetler's dedication, expertise, and |
|
commitment to justice have greatly benefited the citizens of |
|
Brazoria County and earned him the respect and admiration of his |
|
peers, and he may indeed reflect with pride on his successful tenure |
|
on the court as he embarks on the next exciting chapter of his life; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate the Honorable K. Randall |
|
Hufstetler on his retirement from the 300th Judicial District Court |
|
of Brazoria County and extend to him sincere best wishes for the |
|
future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Judge Hufstetler as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
