R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Clifford R. Shaw is concluding his dedicated service |
|
|
as a member of the Cedar Hill City Council in May 2023; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Clifford Shaw first joined the council in 1998 as |
|
|
the Place 6 representative, and he has since helped guide the city |
|
|
through a period of significant growth and economic expansion; |
|
|
throughout his time in office, he has worked to strengthen the |
|
|
community's focus on neighborhood engagement and beautification |
|
|
and championed parks, recreation, and open space; among his many |
|
|
accomplishments, he played an instrumental role in the development |
|
|
of a number of public facilities, including Valley Ridge Park, the |
|
|
Alan E. Sims Cedar Hill Recreation Center, and the Cedar Hill |
|
|
Government Center; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A committed champion of his community, Mr. Shaw is a |
|
|
longtime advocate for African American representation and |
|
|
participation in city government and the school district; he helped |
|
|
found the organization, Diversity and Equality in Cedar Hill, which |
|
|
assisted in electing Cedar Hills's first African American council |
|
|
member in 1995; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Shaw holds a bachelor's degree in electrical |
|
|
engineering from Prairie View A&M University and works as a system |
|
|
engineer for Defense Contract Management Agency Lockheed Martin; he |
|
|
is the proud father of three children, La'Katheryn, LaKandice, and |
|
|
Clifford, all of whom graduated from schools in the Cedar Hill |
|
|
Independent School District; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Clifford Shaw has made many important contributions |
|
|
to the Cedar Hill community over the course of his tenure with the |
|
|
city council, and he has earned the admiration and appreciation of |
|
|
his fellow citizens; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Clifford R. Shaw on his retirement |
|
|
from the Cedar Hill City Council and extend to him sincere best |
|
|
wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Mr. Shaw as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
