R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Olympic track athlete Fred Kerley received |
|
|
well-deserved recognition with the dedication of a mural in his |
|
|
honor on February 4, 2023, in his hometown of Taylor; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Painted by local artist Adam Davenport, the mural |
|
|
depicts Mr. Kerley sprinting to victory in the 100-meter dash at |
|
|
the 2022 World Athletics Championships; his gold-medal time of 9.86 |
|
|
seconds was the sixth-fastest ever recorded at that distance; he |
|
|
also gained worldwide attention for his exceptional Olympic |
|
|
performance in 2021, when he collected a silver medal in the 100 |
|
|
meters at the Summer Games in Tokyo; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Kerley was a track, football, and basketball |
|
|
standout at Taylor High School; following his graduation, he went |
|
|
on to attend South Plains College and Texas A&M University; he |
|
|
starred as a member of the Aggies' track team, winning the 400-meter |
|
|
title at the 2017 NCAA Division I indoor and outdoor track and field |
|
|
championships; that same year, he set the collegiate record in the |
|
|
event; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Demonstrating exceptional talent and dedication, |
|
|
Fred Kerley has proven himself one of the top sprinters in the |
|
|
world, and his achievements are a source of great pride and |
|
|
inspiration for the residents of Taylor; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate track athlete Fred Kerley on being |
|
|
honored with a mural in his hometown of Taylor and extend to him |
|
|
sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Mr. Kerley as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
