R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Members of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity are visiting the
  State Capitol on March 21, 2023, and this occasion provides a
  fitting opportunity to honor the organization for its record of
  leadership and service; and
         WHEREAS, Omega Psi Phi was established by three students on
  the campus of Howard University in 1911; the Ninth District of Omega
  Psi Phi Fraternity was ratified 12 years later, expanding the
  fraternity to Texas, as well as to Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma,
  and California; today, the organization encompasses more than 750
  undergraduate and graduate chapters across the United States and
  around the world; and
         WHEREAS, The fraternity encourages its members to strive for
  academic excellence and to use their resources for the betterment
  of society; working diligently toward the greater good, members
  promote education, support voter registration, fight illiteracy,
  volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, and participate in numerous
  other mentoring and fund-raising activities; and
         WHEREAS, In 1945, Omega Psi Phi launched a National Social
  Action Program to help address the needs of African Americans in the
  areas of health, housing, civil rights, and education; recent
  initiatives include "Brother, You're on My Mind," a collaboration
  with the National Institute on Minority Health and Health
  Disparities to start conversations about mental health; in 2022,
  the fraternity formed a partnership with the Alzheimer's
  Association to raise awareness of the disease in the Black
  community and connect those affected and their families with
  resources; and
         WHEREAS, The men of Omega Psi Phi have distinguished
  themselves through their countless good works, and they are to be
  commended for their dedication to positive change and to the
  principles that have guided this outstanding organization for more
  than a century; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby recognize March 21, 2023, as Omega Psi Phi Day at
  the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the visiting
  delegation.
