R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, In her work as the founder of the Dyslexia School of |
|
|
Houston, Tammy Spencer has dedicated herself to providing quality |
|
|
service to students with dyslexia; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Spencer is a veteran educator and most recently |
|
|
served as an administrator overseeing dyslexia services at the |
|
|
Houston Independent School District; she launched the Dyslexia |
|
|
School in September 2020, at a time when schools were turning to |
|
|
online instruction during the COVID-19 pandemic, which further |
|
|
exacerbated the challenges faced by many students with learning |
|
|
disabilities; initially, she operated the school from a garage |
|
|
apartment at her home; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Dyslexia School relocated to a nearby building |
|
|
in West University Place, and today, enrollment has grown to |
|
|
include more than 50 students; in addition to dyslexia screening |
|
|
and assessment, the school offers half-day sessions for students |
|
|
ages 4 to 15 to supplement their learning; the school aims to |
|
|
provide a strong foundation for reading in a nurturing environment, |
|
|
and each student receives an individual education plan that allows |
|
|
them to learn at their own pace; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Through her leadership, expertise, and commitment |
|
|
to excellence, Tammy Spencer has made a meaningful difference in |
|
|
the lives of countless young Texans with dyslexia, and she is indeed |
|
|
deserving of recognition for her accomplishments in this crucial |
|
|
endeavor; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby honor Tammy Spencer for her accomplishments as |
|
|
the founder of the Dyslexia School of Houston and extend to her |
|
|
sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Ms. Spencer as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
