R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Galveston Independent School District and its
  board of trustees are rededicating Tor Baseball Field in honor of
  civic leader Roger "Bo" Quiroga at a ceremony on March 24, 2023; and
         WHEREAS, Located on Galveston Island at 83rd Street and
  Stewart Road, the field is home to the Ball High School baseball
  team, and its renaming is an especially fitting tribute to
  Mr. Quiroga, who was a star pitcher for the Golden Tornadoes and
  helped the team advance to the state playoffs in 1971; later that
  year, he was drafted by the Washington Senators in the first round
  of the Major League Baseball amateur draft; over the course of his
  career, he played in 77 games with the Pulaski Phillies,
  Spartanburg Phillies, and Rocky Mount Phillies before his
  retirement in 1975; and
         WHEREAS, A Galveston native, Mr. Quiroga went on to
  distinguish himself as a committed champion for his community, most
  notably during his three terms as the city's mayor; he took office
  in 1998 and continued to serve until 2004, when he concluded his
  tenure due to term limits; and
         WHEREAS, The rededication of the Ball High baseball field
  will establish a lasting and well-deserved monument to an esteemed
  citizen, and it is a privilege to join in commending Mr. Quiroga for
  his achievements and his commitment to Galveston ISD and the
  residents of Galveston; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the renaming of Tor Baseball Field
  in honor of Roger "Bo" Quiroga and extend to all those attending the
  ceremony sincere best wishes for a meaningful and memorable event;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Quiroga as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
