R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The Baytown Police Department is mourning the loss |
|
of a much-loved member of its unit, K-9 officer Lenin, who passed |
|
away on March 9, 2023; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born on August 26, 2020, in Hungary, the Maliherd |
|
was assigned to Baytown K-9 Officer Hunter Kinzie; the duo |
|
completed training both in-house and at the Houston K9 Academy, |
|
earning certification in August 2022; Lenin was the department's |
|
first Explosive Ordnance Detection K-9, and he and Officer Kinzie |
|
conducted a number of large explosive sweeps in the Baytown area; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, In February 2023, Officer Kinzie and Lenin |
|
participated in a seminar in Dothan, Alabama; competing against 75 |
|
other K-9 teams, they won the Top Bomb Dog Award and finished second |
|
in the Bomb Scramble contest and third in the Bomb Vehicles event; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Although the death of this exemplary police dog has |
|
brought great sadness to many, K-9 officer Lenin will forever be |
|
remembered for the courage and enthusiasm with which he performed |
|
his duties as well as for the special camaraderie he shared with his |
|
handler and colleagues; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of K-9 officer Lenin |
|
and extend sincere condolences to Officer Hunter Kinzie and the |
|
other members of the Baytown Police Department. |
