R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The tragic death of Natalia Monet Cox of Melissa on |
|
March 31, 2021, at the age of 21, brought a profoundly felt loss to |
|
all those who were fortunate enough to know this remarkable young |
|
woman; and |
|
WHEREAS, The cherished daughter of Lester and La'Keshia Cox, |
|
Natalia Cox was born in Irving on November 17, 1999, and she grew up |
|
with the companionship of two sisters, Tyara and Sa'Niya; she |
|
graduated from Melissa High School in 2018; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Cox went on to study biology at Huston-Tillotson |
|
University in Austin, and she was set to receive her degree in the |
|
spring of 2022; during her time at the institution, she |
|
distinguished herself as acting president of the Pre-Alumni Council |
|
and as a member of the Deeds Not Words executive board; in addition, |
|
she completed a prestigious two-year internship with the Texas |
|
Parks and Wildlife Department; she hoped to pursue a career as a |
|
plastic surgeon to help individuals with any type of disfigurement; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, In the fall of 2020, Ms. Cox was initiated into the |
|
Alpha Kappa Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and she |
|
later became the chapter's secretary; through her involvement in |
|
the sorority, she contributed to a number of initiatives benefiting |
|
the wider community, including distributing COVID-19 care packages |
|
to area residents; she also gave of her time and talents by making |
|
wigs for cancer patients, and she was a passionate speaker and |
|
advocate on issues related to fitness, veganism, sustainability, |
|
minimalism, and diversity; and |
|
WHEREAS, Admired for her kind and generous nature, Natalia |
|
Cox enriched the lives of those around her beyond measure, and |
|
although her journey on this earth ended far too soon, she will |
|
always be remembered with great tenderness and affection; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Natalia Monet Cox |
|
and extend sincere condolences to the members of her family: to her |
|
parents, Lester and La'Keshia Cox; to her sisters, Tyara Warren-Cox |
|
and her husband, Prince Ibeh, and Sa'Niya Cox; to her nephew, Artist |
|
Arinze Ibeh; to her paternal great-grandfather, Wayne Morrow; to |
|
her grandmother, Lisa Morrow Vickery; to her maternal grandparents, |
|
Emmitt and Brenda Warren; and to her other relatives and many |
|
friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Natalia |
|
Cox. |
