R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Villa Arcos, a popular Mexican restaurant in |
|
Houston's East End, is reopening on March 27, 2023, to the delight |
|
of many area residents; and |
|
WHEREAS, Located on Navigation Boulevard, Villa Arcos was |
|
established in 1977 by Velia Arcos Rodríguez Durán and was run for |
|
many years by her daughter, Yolanda Black Navarro, an esteemed |
|
community leader and activist; the restaurant is best known for its |
|
breakfast tacos, which are served on hand-rolled tortillas that are |
|
made fresh each day; in 2019, Villa Arcos was recognized as one of |
|
Houston's Top 100 restaurants by the Houston Chronicle; and |
|
WHEREAS, Today, the family-owned establishment benefits from |
|
the able leadership of Jacob Torres, Ms. Durán's grandson; the |
|
restaurant temporarily closed its doors in February 2021 due to the |
|
COVID-19 pandemic, and it will reopen with new operating and |
|
point-of-sale systems, online ordering capabilities, and |
|
third-party integration; and |
|
WHEREAS, Villa Arcos has served the people of Houston for |
|
more than four decades, and its reopening is sure to bring great joy |
|
to longtime patrons and new customers alike while marking an |
|
exciting new chapter for this beloved local institution; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the reopening of Villa Arcos and |
|
extend to all those associated with the restaurant sincere best |
|
wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the restaurant as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
