R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to
  a close with the passing of the Honorable Debra Ibarra Mayfield of
  Houston on March 11, 2022, at the age of 47; and
         WHEREAS, The former Debra Ibarra was born in Houston on
  August 26, 1974, to Amado and Linda Ibarra, and she grew up with two
  brothers, Jonathan and Benjamin; she attended Aldine ISD schools in
  her youth and went on to graduate from Texas A&M University and the
  South Texas College of Law; and
         WHEREAS, Judge Mayfield began her career as a briefing
  attorney in the 14th Court of Appeals before moving into private
  practice; she became the first Latina to serve on a Harris County
  civil court in 2011 and was reelected to that role in 2012 and 2014;
  Governor Greg Abbott appointed her to the 165th District Court in
  2015 and two years later named her to the 190th District Court;
  moreover, she served as senior in-house counsel for Enterprise
  Products and as an adjunct professor at the University of Houston
  Law Center, teaching property rights and eminent domain; and
         WHEREAS, Deeply engaged in her community, Judge Mayfield was
  president of the Mexican-American Bar Association of Houston, a
  senior fellow of the American Leadership Forum, and a board member
  for the Association for the Advancement of Mexican Americans, the
  Association of Women Attorneys, the Houston Area Women's Center,
  South Texas College of Law, and St. Thomas University; she was
  named one of Houston's 50 Most Influential Women by Houston Woman
  Magazine and received further recognition from Texas Executive
  Women, the Mexican-American Bar Association of Houston, and the
  Houston Young Lawyers Association; and
         WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Judge Mayfield enjoyed the
  love and support of her husband, former U.S. Army Captain Eric
  Mayfield, with whom she shared a rewarding marriage of 18 years, and
  she was the devoted mother of two children, Catherine and Ethan; an
  active member of First Baptist Church, she found guidance and
  comfort in her faith throughout her life; in addition, she was a
  talented pianist and ran half marathons; and
         WHEREAS, Although the passing of Debra Mayfield has brought
  great sorrow to her family and to her many friends and colleagues,
  she leaves behind a legacy of good works that will continue to
  resonate for years to come; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of the Honorable Debra
  Ibarra Mayfield and extend sincere sympathy to all those who mourn
  her passing; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Debra
  Ibarra Mayfield.
