R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Dr. Kelly R. Damphousse was appointed as the 10th
  president of Texas State University on April 21, 2022; and
         WHEREAS, A native of northern Canada, Kelly Damphousse moved
  during high school to southern Alberta, where he aspired as a young
  man to become an officer of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police; after
  receiving an associate's degree in law enforcement from Lethbridge
  Community College, he worked as a prison guard for three years
  before earning a bachelor's degree in criminal justice at Sam
  Houston State University and a master's degree and Ph.D. in
  sociology from Texas A&M University; and
         WHEREAS, A well-regarded scholar in the study of terrorism,
  substance abuse, and the criminal justice system, Dr. Damphousse
  began his career at the University of Alabama at Birmingham before
  returning to SHSU to teach; he then joined the faculty of the
  University of Oklahoma, where he was a Presidential Professor of
  Sociology as well as associate dean and dean of the College of Arts
  and Sciences at Oklahoma; he went on to serve as chancellor of
  Arkansas State University in Jonesboro for five years before
  becoming president of TXST in April 2022; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Damphousse is also a national leader in
  collegiate athletics; he was the faculty athletics representative
  at the University of Oklahoma for five years, and he is currently a
  member of the NCAA Board of Directors and the NCAA Board of
  Governors and the board president of the Sun Belt Conference; in all
  his endeavors, he benefits from the love and support of his wife,
  Beth, as well as that of his daughters, Kayleigh and Kristen; and
         WHEREAS, Throughout his distinguished career, Kelly
  Damphousse has worked tirelessly to prepare students for the
  challenges and opportunities of a changing world, and he has
  demonstrated the vision and leadership necessary to advance the
  mission of Texas State University in the years to come; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Kelly R. Damphousse on his
  appointment as president of Texas State University and extend to
  him sincere best wishes for a successful tenure; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Dr. Damphousse as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
